Reaching out

Tonight I went to the free knitting class on post. It was awesome. There were only 4 ladies there, and all of them were working on a different project, and after I told them I was there to learn how to knit, the teacher came and sat by me at the table and taught me some basic stuff. All the methods I learned over the weekend out of a "I taught myself to knit" book I bought from Walmart was apparently the "English style" of knitting. She taught me "continental style," which definitely seems easier and a little faster. So now I'm practicing my "garter" stitch and next week I'm going to learn the "Perl" stitch.

And yes..I'm name dropping all the technical terms cause I'm proud...and a big dork. ;)

Oh yeah. I also met a lady in the class that has bright blue hair and seems really cool. Turns out she lives right around the corner from me too (literally). So I came home tonight with a phone number..oh yeah..play on player..

I'm glad I didn't chicken out on the class. I'm not always the best in going into new situations..unless it's for a job or something. I got to the front doors of the Art Center tonight and was so close to turning around it wasn't funny. {pats self on back}

*pats you on back*
Did you hear about the old lady who got her knitting needles taken away from her when she got on the airplane? They were afraid that she might knit an afghan...sorry for the corny joke but you reminded me of it.

So cool! I love that you've taken up knitting! Listen, if you have the DIY Channel, watch "Knitty Gritty"- it's SO GOOD. The host, Vickie Howell, is a BUST gal- she's part of this collective called the Austin Craft Mafia. I know you'll love it. Hr site is: www.vickiehowell.com (I think?)

I am proud of you- I get sort of freaked out in a new group too, but it's always better after you go. And hey, if it sucks- at least you know that it does!

You, my friend, are a playa participata!
